Valuing Time
When asked, most people will say:
“I’m too busy, I have no time” or “I am busy and I don’t know
where my time goes”.
Many of us waste time ruthlessly, especially on social media.
Either we waste our time intentionally or unintentionally by not
being ‘mindful’ of where it goes.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) reminded us of the value of
time “There are two blessings which many people waste: health
and free time.” [Bukhari]
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said,
“Take advantage of five before five:
- Your youth before your old age,
- Your health before your illness,
- Your riches before your poverty,
- Your free time before your work, and
- Your life before your death.” [Shu’ab al-Imān 9575]
Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with
him)
“I don’t regret anything as much as I
regret over a day, in it my appointed time
has decreased and yet in it my deeds have
not increased!”
Imam Hasan Al-Basri (21-110AH/
642-728CE)
“I have lived with a people who were
more miserly with their Time than you
are with your money.”
