Water is the foundation of human life but a staggering 1 in 3 people does not have
access to clean water. Pure, safe water means that drinking, cooking, washing and performing wudhu does not pose a risk of illness.
Wells give communities reliable sources of water that means that women and young
children do not have to walk miles to collect, what is often dirty undrinkable water. Without a
water well nearby, the average distance that a woman or a chid will have to walk in Africa is 3.7 miles.
By donating charity to build a well, you can help save lives. Suffering from water-borne diseases is limiting people’s potential.
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) once said, “The best charity is giving water to drink.” (Ahmad)
A well is a Sadaqah Jariyah. Your donation will help people hundreds of people to stay healthy, grow crops and can help children to have time to go to school and for women to focus on livelihood.
Providing this source of life is not expensive but the rewards can be eternal. Every time your well allows a person to quench their thirst, grow a plant, feed an animal, or work instead of spending their day fetching water, that will be your blessed legacy.
Peace Matters has already built a number of water Wells in East Africa, in partnership with Islamic Help. A water well can serve hundreds of households.
The cost of a deep water well is £3,500
The cost of ordinary water well is £1,500.
