Gift Aid

Gift Aid is a scheme to encourage people to participate in charitable giving. If you pay Income or Capital Gains Tax in the UK you are eligible for the scheme.

Gift Aid will not cost you or us anything. It simply means that we can claim an additional 25p from the Government for every £1 you donate.

For example, if you donate £100 to Peace Matter and make a Gift Aid declaration, we will receive an additional £25 in Gift Aid making your donation worth £125.

To be eligible you must pay Income or Capital Gains Tax at least equal to the amount of Gift Aid all charities will claim on your donations otherwise you will be responsible for paying any difference. You can request from us at any time the value of Gift Aid claimed. You can also notify us using the forms below if you circumstances change and you are no longer eligible for Gift Aid.

You can tell us if you’d like us to claim Gift Aid when making your donation online or over the phone.

Q. What is Gift Aid?

A. Gift Aid is a simple way to increase the value of your gift to Peace Matter - at no extra cost to you. If you pay tax in the UK, Peace Matter can reclaim the basic rate tax (25%) on your gift. So, if you donate £100, it is worth £125 to Peace Matter.

Q. Do I qualify for Gift Aid?

A. In order for Peace Matter to reclaim the tax you have paid on your donations, you must have paid Income or Capital Gains Tax (in the UK) for each tax year (6 April to 5 April) at least equal to the tax that all the charities or Community Amateur Sports Clubs that you donate to will reclaim on your gifts for that tax year. Other taxes such as VAT and Council Tax do not qualify.

Q. How do I sign up to Gift Aid?

A. The process is simple - all you have to do is make a Gift Aid declaration. If you are donating online, just tick the Gift Aid box on the donation form. Alternatively, you can use the forms above to update your Gift Aid status.

Q. What is a Gift Aid declaration?

A. A Gift Aid declaration is a statement by an individual taxpayer that they want a charity to receive the tax paid on their donation back from the government.

Q. How long does the declaration last for?

A. To simplify matters for both you and Peace Matter, the declaration wording normally covers present, future and past donations. We can back-claim four years and we will continue to claim until you tell us otherwise, so long as you are eligible.

Q. What do I do if I my tax status changes or I want to cancel my declaration?

A. To let us know if you stop paying tax or wish to cancel your declaration.

Q. Can I claim Gift Aid on the funds I have raised?

A. To claim Gift Aid on your fundraising, we must have the first name or initials, last name, full home address and postcode of each individual donor/sponsor. So please encourage them to tick the Gift Aid box on your sponsorship form when they sponsor you. Without these details we legally can’t claim Gift Aid - so be strict with your supporters!
